Vivo pledges smartphone manufacturing in India

Chinese manufacturer Vivo said it will manufacture its mid-range V20 SE smartphone in India, pledging to support the government’s national Make in India initiative.

ET Telecoms reported, Vivo India director Nipun Marya announced the news, stating the smartphone will be made in the city of Greater Noida, a move that is a continuation of the company’s support of Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India programme.

The company’s unit in Greater Noida employs 10,000 employees.

The chief executive also highlighted the state of Rajasthan as a key shipment driver for the manufacturer, accounting for more than 7% of Vivo’s total business in India. It has a network of over 4,000 retailers and 50 speciality stores in the state.

The Vivo V20 SE was launched in October for INR20,990 ($281). It features a 6.44-inch AMOLED display, a triple-main camera setup (48MP, 8MP, 2MP), the Qualcomm 665 processor, a 4,100mAh battery with fast charging support and a 32MP front-facing camera.
