Eutelsat OneWeb and Q-KON connect digital banks in South Africa

Eutelsat Group and satellite engineering enterprise Q-KON have revealed that multiple digital banks in South Africa have now gone live on Eutelsat OneWeb’s LEO satellite network.

According to Eutelsat, OneWeb connectivity is being used by Q-KON to deliver operational (internal) and customer-facing (external) processes to the banks. These include intranet, SD-WANs, branch online management, data backhaul, staff and customer Wi-Fi and ATM services.

Q-KON said the service launches for the banks follows last year’s successful incorporation of Eutelsat OneWeb connectivity into its Twoobii Smart Satellite Services.

Q-KON, which provides satellite engineering services for southern Africa, also said it will continue to roll out these services in the coming months.

“The fully operational LEO installations are further evidence of the utility of the Q-KON Twoobii Eutelsat OneWeb solution in financial services contexts,” said Q-KON  group CEO Dawie de Wet in a statement. “We look forward to continuing the rollout of this LEO connectivity solution to more branches to benefit the customers of our banking clients throughout southern Africa.”

“We are delighted to see the impact our LEO network services are already having for local businesses in South Africa,” said Cyril Dujardin, co-president of Eutelsat Group’s Connectivity Business Unit at Eutelsat OneWeb. “We are looking forward to seeing the expansion of our services for more businesses across the country.”
