TM One teams with PLANMalaysia to boost smart city development

Telekom Malaysia’s enterprise/government business arm TM One said on Wednesday it is collaborating with the government’s PLANMalaysia to help local city councils accelerate their smart city initiatives.

The collaboration involves 29 local councils who received awards earlier this month under the Malaysia Smart City Recognition Programme organized by PLANMalaysia (a.k.a. Department of Town and Country Planning).

Under the agreement, the local councils will have access to several proof of concept (POC) trials from TM One’s smart services suite, such as its Unified Enforcement System, which offers automation and insight analysis of operation enforcement services that promises to help local councils manage larger communities better.

Other service POCs include a Smart City App for e-government services and a Smart Workforce system to manage field teams in real-time.

TM One executive VP Shazurawati Abd Karim said the POCs will enable the councils to test solutions suited to their localities, improve overall efficiency in their operations and services, and help them in their journey towards becoming full-fledged smart cities.

“Through these POCs, we aim to help the government implement smart services in more locations, bringing these technologies closer to everyday Malaysians and improving their way of life,” she said.

Shazurawati added that the TM One has had success with its Smart City projects in Ipoh, Pengerang, Seberang Prai, Kulai, Port Dickson and Subang Jaya with solutions like Smart Traffic Management and Smart Surveillance.

“[These projects] experienced reduced time in traffic, lower carbon emissions, and improved response efficiency,” she said.
