Telkomsel and Vonage to collaborate on network APIs

Indonesian telco Telkomsel and Ericsson subsidiary Vonage revealed on Tuesday they have agreed to collaborate on communications and network APIs for developers, enterprises, and communications service providers (CSPs).

Under a strategic partnership agreement, the two companies will combine Telkomsel's API capabilities with Vonage's communications and network APIs to enable developers to build advanced, secure, and reliable applications.

To that end, Telkomsel has launched Digihub, a platform that provides developers access to its network APIs, particularly for 5G and converged capabilities.

Telkomsel will also provide its network APIs through the Vonage Network Registry – Vonage's global first-to-market service – to deliver business solutions to market faster. Vonage said the service will also facilitate CSPs in effectively scaling the consumption of network APIs by simplifying and standardizing the approval process and granting access to network providers' APIs for Application Service Providers (ASPs).

Seckin Arikan, EVP and head of Communications Platform as a Service and Global Network Platform Sales at Vonage, said the collaboration with Telkomsel will drive an ecosystem for open innovation and deliver new services and solutions to optimize application performance, create new applications, and drive better customer experiences.

“By combining Vonage's global communications and network APIs with Telkomsel's leading network APIs, we will be able to deliver new capabilities to enterprises and end users in Indonesia, while accelerating innovation for the network," he said in a statement.

Telkomsel has been participating in the GSMA Open Gateway, the framework of common network APIs designed to provide enterprise developers with universal access to operator networks.. Earlier this month, Telkomsel – along with rival telcos  Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, XL Axiata, and Smartfren – launched Number Verification, SIM Swap and Device Location services based on Open Gateway APIs to help combat fraud.
